In Summary

I reluctantly began this program thinking it would be very difficult. It has turned out to be a very beneficial addition to my library training. I did feel like I was playing with paper dolls while creating an avatar, but that was alot of fun. I especially enjoyed setting up the blog and exploring Flickr. I thought LibraryThing was pretty neat. Learning about wiki's and seeing how other libraries were using them was also interesting. YouTube was something I thought was fun and I will go back to that. I would definately enjoy more online training. Mr. Darcy enjoyed the fact that he was the center of attention as usual. It's good to know how much Jane Austen is still appreciated and remember you can always go back to Pemberly. See you ...............

Project Gutenburg

I really liked Project Gutenburg. I found out that Pride and Prejudice was # 17 on the top 100 books of yesterday. I started to read it, but then I thought they might want me back at the circ desk to do some work. Oh well, there's always another day! Mr. Darcy was quite excited about being such a celebrity. Who would ever have thought it!

Podcasts

I discovered Podcastalley.com and visited the Tokyo Central Public Library. They have a 12 page users guide at the Circ. Desk so patrons will know exactly how to do everything at the library. Maybe that's a thought.

Web 2.0 and Thinkfree

Well I played around with and signed up for Thinkfree. It's a completely free online alternative to Microsoft Office. It lets you create, colloborate on and store documents and files. It looks like it I will be using it quite a bit. I think it will be very helpful.

YouTube

I enjoyed YouTube, especially the talking dog videos. Seriously though, I can't see why people would spend time on YouTube. I would rather read. Just a personal preference. It was also fun to watch the 60's bloopers. Something different I guess.

Online Productivity Tools

Word Processing has come a long way from my first class in high school. The tools available now are so helpful that it seems every high school student should have a near perfect paper. It is much quicker than Mr. Darcy's pen and ink jar. No blots either.

Technorati

It was surprising to me to see that Britney Spears was the top search. I think I'm getting old.

Del.icio.us

Del.icio.us seems to be a new and interesting way to manage information personally. It was neat to see what other people had found on the same subject and also who they were.
Speaking of Delicious, yesterday(Sept. 10) was Colin Firth's birthday. (The Real Mr. Darcy) As a Firthfan I was busy celebrating at the Rising Sun Library all day. By the way there were 76 posts on Del.icio.us for Colin Firth.

RSS Feeds and Bloglines

This was fun, finding sites that I'm interested in and adding them to my own newsreader account. I like the fact that you will see all the updates without looking up each individual site.
Mr. Darcy is ready to go for a long walk. I also am fond of a long walk. See you later!

Rollyo

Rollyo is different, but I would rather just go to my favorites. Mr. Darcy thinks it's a waste of time. ???????????

Library Thing

Played around with Library Thing, adding some of my favorite books. It was fun, but I don't think it would be much use for me. Mr. Darcy is getting bored with it!

Wiki

Today I played around with Wikis. What fun! I added an entry to the Sandbox Wiki and also made a new one. All my favorite things to do are now out there for everyone in the world to read. Hmmm - that's something to thing about, isn't it?

New Technology

I like the online shopping! Anything you want is available. I enjoy shopping on Amazon, especially for gifts for others. It has made shopping for Christmas gifts much easier and you're able to find such unique things.

The story of "The Pond"

Well it's been a while since my last post. As you can see by my avatar, I arrived in London with my 2 favorite things (books and a dog). After settling in at Pemberly I headed for " the Pond". Little did I know that I would slip and fall into the pond breaking my finger and injuring my knee. But.........just at the moment when all hope was lost, a gentleman arrived on horseback saving me from certain death! Mr. Darcy again! Now I must have knee surgery, so this is to be continued at a later date. See you soon..................

Finally................

Well, the last few days have been such a learning experience! Somehow I ended up with 2 blogs. I finally figured out how to delete one, but I could not add a picture on flickr. It kept saying my configurations were wrong for the remaining blog. (I always knew my configurations were wrong.) . After many tries and with Amanda's help I deleted the blog from flickr and then readded it. Since I had the steps for adding a picture completely memorized, I added the picture with no problem. Amazing what a "little help from your friends" can do. I think I will retire to my " Summer Home" which you can now see pictured below. I will walk to the pond and see if anyone is around.

Play

It seems that all of the 7 1/2 things are ways for us to learn and develop our skills more effectively. Mr. Darcy seems to think we should have PRIDE in ourselves and a vision for the future. I tend to agree with him. We are entering a new age of technology and we have to be prepared to help the patrons of the future.
I think the most important of the 7 1/2 things happens to be PLAY. The baby boomer generation was not taught to play when it came to learning. It is a new experience for me to "play around on the computer" while working on something. It is PLAY with a goal in mind.

A Story

I can't think of a single thing to say, sooooooo I decided to make up a better story than my own. Here goes--------------Once upon a time there was a guy named Darcy (Mr. Darcy to be exact). The library employees at a certain ummentionable library fell deeply in love with him. They constantly talked about him and hung pictures of him all over the library. One day Mr. Darcy came to this unmentionable library and gave them 23 things to think about.
To be continued.....................
